- Machine wash cold on a gentle wool cycle. Use mild wool detergent. Wash inside out with zipper closed. Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry. Reshape while damp and dry flat. Cool iron if needed. Do not dry clean.

The Zipper I Hate to Love

When I pulled the HarmonyHome suit out, my first thought was that the Grace Design Team had finally crossed the line from “forgotten clothing worth reconsidering” into “adult baby romper with an alarming zipper situation.”
It’s pink. It has attached socks. And then there is that zipper: big, contrasting, and running proudly from my neck, down my stomach and straight through my crotch. Subtle this is not.
Grace Design Team, I understand why the zipper exists. I now actually love why it exists. But why does it need to be a statement? It’s already a zipper going through my crotch. Nobody was in danger of overlooking it. You could have matched the colour. You could have made it discreet. Instead you basically drew a line down the front of me and said, “Yes, look here.”
And then, annoyingly, I wore the thing.
The fabric is wonderfully warm and soft, the attached socks are fantastic, and that enormous 15 cm elastic section around the waist might be my favourite part. It continuously hugs me without feeling restrictive and stops the whole suit becoming one shapeless pink blob. I can curl up, stretch, walk around, lie on the sofa — nothing pulls or gets in the way.
And yes, we need to return to the ridiculous zipper, because the first bathroom trip completely changed my opinion of it. Number one or number two, you unzip exactly as far as necessary, do what you need to do, and zip yourself straight back into your cosy shell. No taking the entire suit off. No standing there half naked wondering why comfort clothing always punishes you for having bodily functions. It is an absolute invention.
I haven’t taken it off in two days.
Daniel is less enthusiastic. Apparently I alternate between Teletubby and baby romper depending on the angle. Fine. He can laugh. I’m warm.
I still think the zipper looks stupid.
I also never want to be without it.
