New on the boulevard: Debby’s Books

If you’ve walked along the boulevard over the past few days, you may already have noticed it: tucked between the coffee shop and one of the small clothing stores is a brand-new bookstore. Not a huge shop with endless rows of bestsellers, but a cozy little place run by Debby, a Silverdale local who says she’s been buying more books than her shelves can hold for years.

The store is small, so Debby had to be selective. Her shelves are mostly filled with science fiction and fantasy: distant planets, strange civilizations, dragons, magic, dystopias, and the occasional book that stubbornly refuses to fit into any one genre. Don’t expect hundreds of copies of the same title. Debby prefers choosing what makes it onto the shelves herself, and she’s also made room for lesser-known authors and a small selection of used books.

“I couldn’t afford to open a big bookstore anyway,” she laughs. “So I figured I’d open a small one and only stock books I actually like. Saves me from having to read a whole lot of bad ones, too.”

She doesn’t take that last part entirely literally, though. Stop by during a quiet moment and there’s a good chance you’ll find Debby behind the counter with her nose buried in a book. Sometimes even one that is technically still for sale. She solemnly promises to take the bookmark out before ringing it up.

Debby’s Books is open as of this week on Silverdale Boulevard. And if the door is open but Debby doesn’t respond right away, she’s probably just finishing the chapter. 📖✨
